Kostalov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Košťálov lies in the Oleška Valley and is a hub for routes to the Krkonoše Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise. Cycle Route No. 4174 also passes through Košťálov.

Culture and History

On a wooded hill opposite the swimming pool in Košťálov, the remains of the ramparts and walls of Košťál Castle can be seen. The castle was built around 1361 by the Valdštejn family above the valley of the Želechovský Stream; by 1514, it was already considered abandoned.

The Church of Saint James the Elder in Košťálov was originally a Gothic church from the 14th century and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1717. The Calvary group on the cemetery wall was created in 1820 by local sculptor Jan Culík. The older church bell was cast in 1378 and is one of the oldest bells in the Czech Republic.

Košťálov’s local industrial heritage includes textile factories as well as the mining of melaphyre and oil shale; there were also three mills.

Nature

Kovářův mlýn is a protected natural monument. It consists of an old slate quarry on the left bank of the Oleška, about 400 metres west of the church in Košťálov. Kovářův mlýn is also a paleontological site with Permian flora and fauna. The natural monument is not fenced and is freely accessible.

Leisure

The Košťálov Forest Park covers approximately 1.1 hectares. It has pram-friendly paths with several stations where visitors can learn about life in nature. The Košťálov leisure centre also includes a children’s traffic playground.

The swimming pool in Košťálov was completely renovated in 2023. It features a large children’s paddling pool with a small slide and a fountain, as well as three 40-metre-long swimming lanes.
