Loukov Nad Jizerou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Loukov preserves a medieval village layout, regarded as the only surviving remnant of its medieval development. The historic village centre contains a narrow, slightly irregular rectangular village square. It is lined with farmsteads featuring irregularly rectangular courtyards and three-sided buildings on medieval plots bordered by stone walls.

Villagescape and Architecture

The traditional architecture of Loukov predominantly comprises wooden houses, wooden granaries and other farm buildings. A large proportion of the surviving buildings date from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. This makes it possible to discern the village’s historic rural structure in the different types of buildings.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Stanislaus of Kraków in Loukov is a late Baroque stone church built between 1786 and 1795. The parish church in Loukov was first mentioned in written records in 1352. It has four bells, including one from the 16th century and three acquired in 1977.

The complex of the Church of Saint Stanislaus in Loukov includes a rectory, barns and two cemeteries. The old cemetery by the church, which is no longer in use, is enclosed by a low sandstone wall. It contains an octagonal Baroque chapel from the second half of the 18th century and an altar by the sculptor Antonín Sucharda. The pilgrimage in honour of Saint Stanislaus takes place in Loukov every year on 8 May.

The site of Loukov Fortress is also part of the village’s history. Archaeological finds indicate that the site was inhabited from the 14th to the 16th century. It is freely accessible.

Nature and Trails

The landscape in the municipality of Háje nad Jizerou is considered very suitable for hiking and cycling. The Greenway Jizera cycle route, KČT No. 17, currently also runs through Loukov. Its route leads via Paseky nad Jizerou, Sklenařice, Vysoké nad Jizerou, Škodějov and Loukov because continuous passage through the Jizera Valley between Horní Sytová and Paseky nad Jizerou is difficult.
