History and Culture

South of Hamr na Jezeře, beyond Hamerské jezero, lie the ruins of Děvín Castle, dating from the 13th century. Děvín Castle was founded by the Markvartici noble family before 1250. In the 16th century, Hamr na Jezeře had a mill on the Ploučnice as well as several iron hammers, where limonite extracted from nearby Děvín and its surroundings was processed.

The neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady, Help of Christians, stands on Křížový vrch above Hamr na Jezeře. At the end of the 19th century, Hamr na Jezeře became a sought-after spa resort.
