Žďárek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The history of Žďárek can be read in its buildings, paths and elevations. In the centre of Žďárek stands the Chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius, built in 1872. The chapel in Žďárek is a late Classicist building with Neo-Gothic elements dating from the end of the 19th century.

Culture and History

The historic house in Žďárek is also described separately: it is a small, L-shaped rural farmstead with a timber-built residential section. The name Žďárek is derived from the old expression “žďářit”, which refers to burning or clearing land for a grain field. The first written references to Žďárek date from 1600.

A historic route to Upper Lusatia ran through Žďárek. This route through Žďárek was used by the Russian army during the campaign against Napoleon and by the Prussian army in 1866. From 1939 to 1945, the border of the Protectorate ran through Žďárek.

Landscape and Transport

At 488 metres above sea level, the Hrobka elevation is the highest point of Žďárek. The riverbed of the Mohelka stream, at 342 metres above sea level, forms the lowest point of Žďárek. Žďárek is suitable as a starting point for cycling trips along the Mohelka.

A railway has run through the cadastral area of Žďárek since 1859. Since 1997, the I/35 road intended for motor vehicles has also run through the cadastral area of Žďárek.

Culture in the Surrounding Area

In the immediate surroundings of Žďárek, the orangery in the English Park of Sychrov features an open arcade and a colonnade. The northern axis of the English Park of Sychrov is closed by a romantic gate called Arturův hrad. Also in the immediate surroundings of Žďárek, Sychrov Chateau is open to the public every day year-round, including Mondays. The chateau offers several guided tours; cultural events, concerts and exhibitions take place there year-round.

The educational trail “Forest Wandering with Kamil Rohan” also runs through Sychrov Park.

Restaurant and Event Date

The history of Hostinec Zlatá Hvězda as a restaurant dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The menu includes beef fillet in cream sauce with Karlsbad dumplings (150 g).

The 31st edition of the tennis tournament in women’s and men’s doubles is scheduled to take place at the Nový Mlýn tennis court from 19 to 21 June 2026.
