Merkelsgrün: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Merkelsgrün – the Merklín nature trail begins at the railway station and is laid out as a circular route. It leads through the northern surroundings of Merklín, with extensive meadows, deep forests and old, partly wet paths, to the remains of abandoned settlements.

Paths and Landscape

The mountains of Vlčí hřbet [Jáchymov], Plešivec and Popovský kříž are located in the immediate surroundings of Merklín. Perninský vrch is also situated near Merklín. Another nature-related attraction is the natural outdoor swimming pool in Merklín: it is fed by the Eliáš stream, which keeps the water fresh even in summer.

Sport and Exercise

The Merklín sports complex includes two clay tennis courts and one carpet tennis court. It also offers a clay volleyball court, a beach volleyball court and a multi-purpose court for football or basketball. Training sessions, matches, tournaments and events at the Merklín sports complex can be arranged by telephone or in advance via electronic reservation.

The Merklín skate park is located near the railway station. The reconstructed railway station building in Merklín housed an information centre and a small museum on the ground floor.

Local Life and History

Traditions such as burning witches accompanied by the erection of a maypole, Children's Day with a fairy-tale forest, and Christmas carol singing beneath the tree are maintained in Merklín.

Schlackenwerth Monastery is located near Merklín. In the wider regional area are the former Franciscan monastery in Annaberg-Buchholz, the Church of the Ascension in Cranzahl and the Church of the Redeemer in Bärenstein.
