Petschau (Bečov nad Teplou) combines castle and chateau culture with gardens and natural areas, museums and various experiences. Historical monuments, trails and collections each focus on different aspects.
Culture and History
The Romanesque Reliquary of Saint Maurus is displayed in the Bečov Castle and Chateau complex. The newly restored Bečov Chateau was first opened to the public in 1996. The tours include an exhibition of Gothic art from West Bohemia and two tour routes: one focuses on the reliquary, while the other covers the Baroque chateau interiors with a library, chapel and salons.
The Museum of Historical Motorcycles displays more than 50 historic motorcycles, as well as historic bicycles and motorcycle engines. The upper floor houses an exhibition of wooden toys, family puppet theatres and marionettes. The Museum of Ironing and Washing features exhibitions of piggy banks, as well as banknotes and coins.
The Cup Museum in Bečov displays more than 4,600 cups, as well as wood carvings, retro objects and historical photographs of Bečov nad Teplou. In front of Bečov Town Hall stands a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary Immaculate, erected in 1680.
Nature and Landscape
The Bečov area is part of the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. The Teplá Valley between Bečov and Mnichov is a nature reserve.
The Bečov Botanical Garden covers 12 hectares: 5 hectares of intensive exhibition areas, 1.5 hectares of water areas, 1.5 hectares of orchard and 4 hectares of natural areas. More than 10,000 plant species are cultivated there.
The first via ferrata in the Czech Republic is part of the Bečov Botanical Garden. It offers routes of varying difficulty, including routes suitable for children. Visitors can rent boats on Korunní Pond.
Krásenský vrch mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of Bečov nad Teplou. The mountains Hůrka, Špičák and Spálený are also located around Bečov nad Teplou.
Trails and Experiences
The Šibeniční vrch educational trail is about one kilometre long and has five information boards in Czech, German and English. A circular route through the forests of Bečov can begin at the town square of Bečov nad Teplou and follows the green hiking trail markings towards Bečovské rybníky.
Bečov Questing is a treasure hunt in which participants follow a route, look for clues and solve a puzzle at the end. On foot, it takes about 70 to 90 minutes.
Wider Surroundings
The Hrad Loket Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Bečov nad Teplou. The Novy Dvur Monastery, Schlackenwerth Monastery and the “Center of Europe” monument are also located in this wider regional area.
