Schönthal: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Krásné Údolí combines urban history, sacred architecture and protected landscapes. Its multifaceted character is revealed through historic buildings, quiet paths and areas close to nature.
History and Culture
On 22 April 1488, Jindřich III. z Plavna founded Krásné Údolí as a town on the site of the older, dissolved village of Schickenplos. A late Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1780, stands in the central square; the square is characterised by a park.
The late Gothic parish church of St. Vavřinec was built in 1464 by converting and extending an older chapel on the southwestern outskirts of the town. Around 1774, it was remodelled in the Baroque style under Margravine Elisabetha Báden-Bádenská, based on a design by an unknown architect. Since 2004, the dilapidated church has been undergoing comprehensive reconstruction in stages.
The church has a cast-iron cross that is freely accessible. In addition, an ornately decorated pseudo-Gothic cast-iron cross from 1861 stands on the slope in front of the northern entrance façade of St. Vavřinec, above the square on the southern edge of Krásné Údolí.
A stone reconciliation cross dating from the 14th to the 16th century stands on the left side of a field path on a gentle hill west of Krásné Údolí. During its restoration, the broken-off section was reattached in its original position.
Nature
The Natura 2000 site EVL 5448 Mezi rybníky is located in the administrative area of Krásné Údolí. Krásné Údolí and the settlement of Odolenovice lie within the Slavkovský les protected landscape area.
The cadastral areas of Krásné Údolí and Odolenovice are characterised along their natural boundaries by forest stands; agricultural land is found at lower elevations.

The I/20 national road connecting Plzeň and Karlovy Vary passes through Krásné Údolí. The Skokovská stezka pilgrimage route also passed through Krásné Údolí in 2016 on its stage from Nežichov to Toužim; where possible, a visit to the church of St. Vavřinec was planned there.
