Schlaggenwald: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Horní Slavkov is located in the northern half of the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area (Kaiserwald) and is characterized by a local history closely linked to mining. A small town developed from a new mining colony that emerged near an older miners’ settlement at the beginning of the 13th century, following the influx of miners from Saxony around 1335.

Culture and History

In 1547, Horní Slavkov was granted the status of a royal mining town. The Ležnický open-air museum is located in the renovated former farmhouse “U Weiglů” at house number 810 in Ležnice. Its facilities include historic living quarters, a primary school classroom, and an exhibition of agricultural machinery. The Horní Slavkov Museum is housed in a converted building at number 211 on Pluhova Street.

The parish church of St. George, together with the cemetery, cemetery wall, bell tower, and deanery building, forms a historic monument area in Horní Slavkov. At the same time, the church features fortification elements, including three towers equipped with loopholes.

Mining and Water Engineering

Dlouhá stoka is an artificial water canal that was newly expanded between 1531 and 1536. Above Horní Slavkov, together with side channels and several ponds, it formed a water system that enabled mining facilities in the district to operate. Timber was floated along Dlouhá stoka to meet the needs of the mines.

The Kašpars Pluh adit served to drain the historic silver and tin mining district; excavation began in 1539. The Uranová Golgota educational trail presents the mining history of Horní Slavkov and the surrounding area, particularly uranium mining in the 1950s.

Landscape and Surroundings

Buková, Špičák, and Krásenský vrch are mountains in the immediate vicinity of Horní Slavkov. The surrounding area also includes Chrudim, which is likewise a mountain, and Loket Castle, a castle.

The wider regional surroundings of Horní Slavkov include Schlackenwerth Monastery and Novy Dvur, both monasteries, as well as Center of Europe, a monument.
