Bergstadt Platten: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The historic town centre of Bergstadt Platten (Horní Blatná) was declared an urban heritage conservation zone in 1992. Horní Blatná was founded in 1534 as a Renaissance mining town; its establishment was linked to tin ore deposits in the surrounding area. The town is connected to Karlovy Vary by train and bus services.

History and Culture

The town museum is located in House No. 127 in Horní Blatná. It features a permanent exhibition on the history of the town and on the mining and processing of ores in the area around Horní Blatná. The Church of St Lawrence was built in 1594 as a Protestant church in the Saxon Renaissance style and extensively remodelled in the late Baroque style in 1754–1755. One of its distinctive furnishings is a Renaissance tin baptismal font, cast in 1544 by the Jáchymov tin caster Leonhard Dürr. Today, the church occasionally opens its doors to anyone seeking peace, beauty or a moment of reflection.

Nature and Mining

The Blatenský příkop was used for ore mining and as an energy source for industry in Horní Blatná. The artificial canal is 12 kilometres long; today, most of its route has been restored. Another link between mining history and the landscape can be seen at Vlčí jáma: this protected natural monument preserves the remains of old collapsed tunnels and chambers. Vlčí jáma includes the 15-metre-deep Ledová jáma, where snow lies all year round.

Viewpoints

Zitina vyhlídka stands on Blatenský vrch at an altitude of 1,044 metres above sea level. The 21-metre-high Zitina vyhlídka offers views of the surrounding natural landscape. Zitina vyhlídka was built in 1912 by the winter sports club of Horní Blatná, together with a restaurant and a tourist lodge.
