In the cadastral area of Hořejší Vrchlabi, the Labská Gorge is protected as a natural monument. Its erosion formations range from potholes, rapids and waterfalls to 53 giant potholes formed by erosion.
Culture
The old forge in Hořejší Vrchlabi is a protected national monument and a valuable example of traditional architecture in the Krkonoše Mountains. The former forge is a two-storey building, partly constructed using log construction; a gallery runs around part of the log-built living room. At the same time, it is a wooden house built on a masonry ground floor.
Opposite the forge stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, a Baroque chapel built in 1709. It has been a protected national monument since 1958 and features a massive octagonal dome topped by a lantern with wooden columns.
Trails and history
The Labská Hiking Trail offers an 8 km hike along the Elbe to Hořejší Vrchlabi. A remnant of the old Silesian Stezka through the Krkonoše Mountains, known as “Kamenná cesta”, has survived from Hořejší Vrchlabi to this day.
