Strážné combines nature, sports and history with trails and seasonal activities in the Krkonoše mountains.

Nature

The Strážné cadastral area is home to the Lom Strážné natural monument, which covers 4.22 hectares. It protects limestone- and warmth-loving plant communities that developed on the exposed limestone bedrock after quarrying ended. It is also home to the largest population of the dark-red helleborine in the Krkonoše.

Sports

The ski resort in Strážné is located at an altitude of 800 to 1,300 metres. All slopes are groomed there twice a day with a snow groomer; half of the slopes are artificially snow-covered and illuminated.

Hnědé skály and Hranostají skály in Strážné are climbing areas approved by KRNAP, where climbing is possible year-round. Hranostají skály lie on the right, beyond a stream, near Hnědé skály and offer around ten protected climbing routes of easy and moderate difficulty.

Getting around

The 76-kilometre Krkonošská diagonála cycle route, designated by the KRNAP Administration, runs through Strážné.

The Stráženský expres is a seasonal sightseeing service to the ridges of the Krkonoše; it operates every year from 1 June to 30 September. Skiers can use the free ski bus. It runs daily from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from the central car park in Strážné.

The Za zvonkohrou a pivem Fries route leads from Vrchlabí via the Mramorový lom quarry to Strážné.

Culture and history

The Protestant Art Nouveau church in Strážné dates from 1904.

In the second half of the 17th century and during the 18th century, mountain pasture farming developed in Strážné. It produced mainly butter and the famous Krkonoše herb cheese.
