Proruby: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Proruby showcases the different facets of a place: history, nature and hiking trails are complemented by local events.

History

The first written record of Proruby dates back to 1497. Until 1848, Proruby was a municipality belonging to the Potštejn estate; in 1848, the village became independent. The historical livelihoods were based mainly on agriculture and forestry. Later, weaving, lace-making and shoemaking became occupations in Proruby.

Nature

Na Hadovně is a meadow hidden within the built-up area of Proruby. At the same time, Na Hadovně is the last known site of the green-winged orchid in eastern Bohemia.

Hiking

The route from Brandýs nad Orlicí to Potštejn is just under 15 kilometres long and is suitable for a half-day excursion. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads to Proruby. A hiking route follows a local road to the summit of Kapraď Hill; in good weather, it offers views across the landscape, of Potštejn and of the Orlické Mountains.

Events

Proruby is a checkpoint for the hiking event “Přes tři hrady”, which is held repeatedly. On 19 August, fishing competitions were held in Proruby again, with many children and adults taking part.
