Malé Svatoňovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Malé Svatoňovice combines the Čapek Brothers Museum, sacred sites, viewpoints and reminders of hard-coal mining. The Čapek Brothers Museum was founded in 1946.

Culture and History

The Pilgrimage Church of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque building dating from 1734 that was reconstructed between 1830 and 1831. The religious heritage also includes Mariánský sad, a forest park with a Way of the Cross and seven brick chapels of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. The Boží hrob Chapel was built between 1902 and 1905 and consecrated on 8 April 1906.

The portal of the Kateřina adit is the entrance to a former hereditary gallery from the mid-19th century that was used as a water source for the spa. The former spa park can be accessed from Karel Čapek Square; it was established in 1830 and has a bandstand and an audience platform.

The municipality has numerous sites connected with hard-coal mining; mining began there in 1590 and ended in 1990. The Malé Svatoňovice area also features a monument to hard-coal mining, a terrain model depicting coal transport on a braking railway, a model of a coal-processing plant and six information panels at sites connected with hard-coal mining.

Trails and Landscape

The Žaltman lookout tower is 25 metres high and has 122 steps. From Malé Svatoňovice, it can be reached via a hiking trail marked blue at first and then green, with a significant elevation gain and a length of approximately 4 kilometres. The lookout tower can be visited free of charge all year round, without fixed opening hours.

The Svatoňovická Studánka spring emerges from seven rock fissures; its water does not freeze in winter.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

Cycling Route 3 starts in Malé Svatoňovice and leads, with a more challenging climb, towards the Na Markoušovickém hřebeni lookout tower at an altitude of 708 metres. Cycling Route 4 follows a loop via Havlovice, Rtyně v Podkrkonoší, Odolov, Jívka, Malé Svatoňovice and Úpice back to Havlovice.

The Krvavej Čepelka hiking march organised by KČT Malé Svatoňovice reached its 50th edition in 2026 and offered routes of 5, 10 and 20 kilometres.
