Libchyně lies in a valley on the Libchyňský potok, about 4 km upstream and northeast of Nové Město nad Metují. The valley of the Libchyňský potok offers a walk through almost untouched nature.

Landscape

Along its entire course, the Libchyňský potok cuts into the bedrock. This consists of Upper Cretaceous sediments, particularly marlstones, and underlying metamorphic phyllites.

Hiking

The Libchyňské údolí Geotrail follows the green hiking trail through the Libchyňské údolí valley to Libchyně. The section from the junction “nad koupalištěm” to Libchyně is 3.3 km long. The Libchyňské údolí Geotrail is a 3 km-long nature trail with a total of nine stations. The terrain is not suitable for strollers.

The “Sendraž – rozhledna Na Vartě” hiking trail leads to Libchyně, through the valley of the Libchyňský potok, crossing five footbridges along the way. A route through Libchyně also leads to a stone cross dating from 1872.

History

The first written reference to Libchyně dates from 1459. In 1503, Jan Černčický of Kácov transferred the village to the newly founded Nové Město Hradiště, under whose jurisdiction it remained until 1848. In 1557, Jan Štěpán built a mill in Libchyně, which was purchased by Jan Libchyňský in 1636.

Today, the archaeological Hradiště features a rampart and a ditch.
