Veltruby: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Veltruby combines a protected Elbe floodplain landscape with remarkable cultural traces and events. The area presents a diverse picture, encompassing natural surroundings, chapels, churches and historic terrain features.

Nature

Veltrubský luh protects former channels of the Elbe with varying water depths, as well as well-preserved floodplain forests. Protected species in Veltrubský luh include the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).

Culture and History

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village green of Veltruby opposite house no. 5. It has a sandstone portal bearing the year 1841; inside there is a polychrome statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary received its present dedication on 14 December 1980. On 30 October 1986, it was entered, together with the statue of Saint Wenceslas, in the central register of the Czech Republic as an immovable cultural monument.

At the early medieval Svatovík hillfort, the remains of the former perimeter fortifications are now visible only as an inconspicuous terrain ridge. The present Late Neoclassical church between Veltruby and Jezeřany was completed in 1846.

Cycling and Events

A developed section of the EuroVelo 4 route between Velký Osek and Kolín passes through Veltruby. Its use is recommended in wet weather.

In 2025, the Veltrubská desítka race started and finished at the SK Čechie Veltruby sports field. The programme of the 2025 Veltrubská desítka also included a children's race around Brůdek in Veltruby.
