Podlešín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

One of Podlešín’s notable features is the Podlešínská skalní jehla rock formation: this isolated, distinctly column-shaped rock outcrop, approximately 8 metres high, consists of arkose sandstones to conglomerates of the Slaný Formation. The rock formation can be reached from Podlešín or Želenice via field paths; after rain, the access paths can be very muddy. Along the path to the Podlešínská skalní jehla, enclosed sandstone adits can be seen, from which sandstone was extracted for the construction of the viaduct.

Nature and Local History

Another notable natural landmark is the Podlešínská lípa, a small-leaved lime tree in Podlešín. It was declared a memorial tree on 25 July 1978. The trunk circumference of the Podlešínská lípa was recorded as 420 centimetres on 9 September 2020.

The Podlešínský viaduct stands at the entrance to Podlešín from the direction of Knovíz towards Zvoleněves. The first section of the local cycle path was laid on an old railway embankment towards Zvoleněves. The old railway embankment can be cycled along its entire length from Podlešín to beneath the viaduct. The completed section of the cycle path begins at the wastewater treatment plant and is connected to the cycle path leading to Zvoleněves.

There is no passenger check-in at Podlešín railway station; this takes place on the train.
