Plaňany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Plaňany combines a preserved Romanesque church from the 12th century with a Neo-Gothic church from the late Historicist period. The Church of the Annunciation is a preserved Romanesque place of worship dating from the 12th century. Completed in 1913, the Church of St. John the Baptist became Plaňany’s new landmark; its slender, distinctly elevated prismatic tower forms a visible landmark of the town and an unmistakable point of orientation in the surrounding landscape.

Culture and History

In 1937, masonry dating from the 10th century was discovered beneath the floor of the preserved Romanesque church in Plaňany; it may have belonged to an original rotunda. The synagogue in Plaňany was built between 1858 and 1861 and served as a prayer house of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church from 1926. Husův sbor is located in the former synagogue.

The Mírkovská Fortress also preserves several historical layers. In the 1740s, it was converted into and expanded as a granary; in this form, it has essentially been preserved to this day. Its southern section contains original Renaissance masonry from the residential palace of the fortress, extending up to the level of the window sills on the upper floor.

Landscape and Local History

The settlement area at the confluence of the Kouřimka and Bečvárka rivers has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic Age. The landscape around Plaňany is therefore part of a context that extends far beyond the buildings visible today.

Active Recreation

The sports ground in Plaňany is available to the general public of all ages for active recreation, particularly for ball games such as tennis, volleyball, football, nohejbal and basketball. Plaňany is also associated with “Pečeckem kolem dokola”, a tourist game.
