Petrov is located in the Posázaví region on the right bank of the Sázava, 5 km from Jílové u Prahy.

Landscape

The 398-metre-high Ďábel Hill rises above Petrov. An information board stands at its summit. Although the oak forest blocks the view from the summit, there is a good view from the edge of the forest.

The Třeštibok Nature Monument lies on the rocky right bank of the Sázava Canyon and, apart from the rocks, is covered by naturally composed forest. The Třeštibok viewpoint in Petrov-Bohuliby offers an unobstructed view of the Sázava River. From the Vyhlídka Třeštibok viewpoint, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads in about 10 minutes to a similar view of the river from the Vyhlídka Hadí skála viewpoint.

North and east of Petrov, the Střed Čech Nature Park encompasses forests and agricultural land, including the geographical centre of Bohemia. The nature park also has a dense network of hiking trails, making hiking and cycling in the area around Petrov possible.

Trails

The Medník educational trail starts at Petrov u Prahy railway stop. It is about 5 km long and has 14 stations. A tourist route with an educational trail runs through Třeštibok.

The Posázavská Trail runs through the surroundings of Petrov along the Sázava between Pikovice and Kamenný Přívoz. The trail has only gentle inclines there and is suitable for families with children and dogs, but it is not accessible to pushchairs. The Posázavská Trail can also be reached by train via Petrov u Prahy railway stop.

History

Petrov was probably founded in the 13th century by monks from Ostrovský Monastery; the village was first mentioned in writing in 1310. Medieval gold mining has also been documented in Petrov: gold was mined in the eastern cadastral area until 1968.

Getting Around

Petrov has two railway stops, Petrov Chlomek and Petrov u Prahy, on the Posázavský pacifik railway line. Canoeists can reach the Pikovice–Petrov bridge via the Sázava. Prague Integrated Transport bus route 444 runs between Jílové and Davle.
