Nová Ves-Ohrada: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Ohrada archaeological area is classified as ÚAN I, meaning an area with archaeological finds or well-founded suspected archaeological finds, and is recorded as a settlement site of the Linear Pottery culture.

Archaeology and history

The Nová Ves I–Ohrada archaeological site is associated with the Funnel Beaker culture and the Řivnáč culture. The archaeological sites in Ohrada also include a burial ground from the Celtic and Germanic periods.

Landscape and location

The Ohrada archaeological area lies in fields south of the road from Kolín to Nová Ves. The central built-up part of Nová Ves I–Ohrada is located at the transition between a loess terrace and a windblown sand dune.

The settlement was founded as Schönweid and was known locally as Ohrada.

Traditions and events

Staročeské máje are among the traditions still maintained in Ohrada. Their programme includes a May procession held every three years, followed by an entertainment programme.

The Ohradská beseda organises the traditional “velikonoční čára” on Easter Monday, 6 April, in Ohrada village square. It also organises an evening entertainment programme outdoors every year.

In the context of the host municipality of Nová Ves I, the recurring “Runs through the region of the Battle of Kolín” takes place, with 4.5 km and 9 km routes starting at the nursery school in Nová Ves I.
