In Žernovka, a short educational trail, a special village square and a history closely connected with granite come together.

Trails and Village Life

The NS Mukařov-Žernovka educational trail ends at the fire station and children's playground in Žernovka. The entire educational trail, approximately 1.5 kilometres long, is accessible to pedestrians and people with pushchairs; cyclists can also use it with appropriate caution regarding traffic. Cycle route 0022 also passes through Žernovka, branching off here from cycle route 1 between Prague and Brno.

Since 1994, firefighters from Mukařov or Žernovka have taken care of the checkpoint at Jezírko in Žernovka.

Village Square and Remembrance

A unique granite bell tower stands beside the pond on Žernovka's village square. To mark its centenary, the bell or the bell tower by the pond received a renewed inscription. Žernovka is also home to a monument to Abbot Arnošt Vykoukal and a monument to those who fell in the First World War.

Granite and Forest History

Žernovka was founded as a stonecutters' village. Granite is still quarried in some local quarries today. Granite boundary stones continue to be found in the forest towards Doubek; this section of forest is called “V hranicích”. The stones once divided estates. The forest section is particularly popular with mushroom pickers.

The original name of the Kutnohorské stezky was “Zelená cesta”.
