Hradec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hradec is an independent settlement with a predominantly recreational character. Landscape and history exist side by side here in close proximity.

Landscape

The Hradec hillfort is located on a broad promontory rising above the Jizera northwest of the town centre. Below Hradec, the Jizera flows past high rocky banks. On the right bank lies a natural formation characterised by marshes and poplars, which has always been called “ostrov”.

History and Culture

The Hradec hillfort, dating from the 9th century, served as a watchpoint at an important river ford. The southeast side of the Hradec rampart is bordered by an embankment up to 3 m high; in front of it was a ditch that can no longer be identified today. The town museum in Mnichovo Hradiště houses several archaeological finds from the Hradec site.

Routes

Regional cycle route no. 8050 (223) runs via Mnichovo Hradiště, Sychrov, Hradec, Březina and Kurovodice. The fourth stage of the Žitavská Way of St. James from Český Dub to Mnichovo Hradiště is 22 km long and runs via Hradec. The route towards Kurovodice is mentioned as a starting point for accessing the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area.
