Měšice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Měšice Chateau was built between 1767 and 1775 on the site of an original fortress by Antonín Haffenecker for the Nostitz family as a late Baroque chateau.
Culture and History
Měšice Chateau Park is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and is listed under number 2106 in its register of cultural monuments. A clock constructed in Prague in 1774 by master clockmaker Sebastian Londensperger has been preserved on the façade of Měšice Chateau. The clock, with its Baroque decorative elements, and its mechanism were reconstructed in 2006 and put back into operation on 1 May 2006.
In 1775, a lightning conductor was installed on the roof of Měšice Chateau by Dr Josef Tadeáš Klinkoš, a Prague professor of medicine and physics. It is considered the first lightning conductor in Bohemia. It still stands on the chateau today and has the form of a design created by the American statesman and naturalist Benjamin Franklin.
Park and Nature
Měšice Chateau Park covers 15.24 hectares south of the chateau building. Měšice Park offers walks among mature trees. It also includes a small pond that may fill with water after rain and is used by birds from the surrounding area.
A special attraction in Měšice Park is the 70-metre-long Hmatová stezka. It allows visitors to walk barefoot over various natural materials: sand, gravel, bark mulch, pine cones and freshly fallen leaves from the surrounding trees. Benches are provided along the Hmatová stezka for resting and for putting on or taking off shoes. Behind Měšice Chateau, it is located on the left, approximately 100 metres along the path from the meadow.
