History
Chmelná has been documented since the Middle Ages; the first written mention of the village dates back to 1375. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, a landmark of Chmelná, stands on the village square. It was built and consecrated in 1883, completely restored in 1998 and reconsecrated by Bishop Václav Malý.
Landscape
Chmelná lies in the typical hilly landscape of Central Bohemia at an elevation of 481 m above sea level. The Blaník Protected Landscape Area is located 4.5 km southwest of Chmelná.
Faith and customs
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity at a spring is located in Horky Forest. It was built in 1929 by the Catholic Youth Association and restored in 2012. A service is held at the spring chapel on the Feast of the Holy Trinity. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity at the spring is a popular destination for excursions and walks throughout the year.
Local culture
A fish harvest takes place every year below Chmelná. A fish festival is held annually in Chmelná. The Chmelařinka Chapel has been active in Chmelná since 1967 and performs at local celebrations and dance events.
Historical traces
The Jewish cemetery near Pravonín is located 3 km west of Chmelná. It contains a grave connected with the ancestors of Gustav Mahler from the local Jewish community.
