Municipality of Čađavica – Nature and experiences along the Drava

In the Municipality of Čađavica, nature experiences along the Drava go hand in hand with insights into the region’s culture. A special place to visit is the Dravska priča visitor centre in Noskovci: its exhibition presents the biological diversity of Mura-Drava Regional Park and the Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve. Discover nature at Dravska priča

The visitor centre’s themed rooms showcase protected plant and animal species. The centre is housed in the former summer residence of the Drašković family in Noskovci. Outside, the protected park includes a waterside path along a canal and a viewpoint. The exhibition and the park offer different ways to experience nature: inside, the focus is on species diversity and how it is presented, while the path and viewpoint lead visitors outdoors.

Since September 2017, the park has also been home to a rescue and care centre for white storks. It looks after birds that, due to various injuries, can no longer live independently in the wild. This direct insight into the work of caring for storks complements the exhibition’s themes. The visitor centre can tailor its programmes to visitors’ individual wishes; those interested in particular aspects of nature can take this into account when planning a programme.

Explore by bicycle or canoe

Dravska priča organises cycling tours and provides bicycles and equipment. The centre has a total of 76 bicycles for visitors of different ages. Helmets and vests are included in the appropriate equipment. Cycling is therefore a distinct focus of the activities on offer locally; this may be important when choosing holiday accommodation if you would like to include such experiences in your stay.

Organised trips on the Drava or its side channels are also available. There are 10 canoes for a total of up to 40 people, as well as life jackets. Cycling and canoeing offer different ways to experience the surroundings: cycling tours take you through the landscape on two wheels, while organised trips take place on the water.

Local culture and history

Čađavica combines nature-related experiences with living traditions. The annual municipal celebration, “Petrovo”, takes place at the end of June; as part of it, KUD Podravina stages a folklore show. If you are interested in local culture as well as the landscape and outdoor activities, this is a special reason to include Čađavica in your travel plans.

Horse breeding is another part of the area’s history: it began at Ergela Čađavica in 1995 with Arabian horses. The municipality also holds an event known as Slavonian Kolinja, in which members of KUD Podravina Čađavica have taken part. These examples show different sides of local life—from a tradition of horse breeding to an event that has also involved the local cultural association.

Choosing where to stay

Čađavica is connected by road to the Slatina–Osijek route. For cycling travellers, the eastern section of the Drava Route, or EuroVelo 13, which runs between Terezino Polje and Čađavica, is also of interest.
