The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built on the Brus plateau in 1897 and consecrated on 30 October 1900. The present church stands on the site of an older church that was probably built in the 15th century.
Historically, Svinišće was called Vinišće; the place apparently appears in historical sources for the first time in 1315. The Brstilova Cave in Svinišće has been identified as a Neolithic archaeological site. Dovnica in Svinišće has been identified as a prehistoric mound.
