Gata: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gata lies at the foot of Mount Mosor in Middle Poljica and in the area of the former Republic of Poljica. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Gata should consider the town as a travel destination.

Culture and History

The Poljica Museum was opened in 1974 in an old brotherhood house near the parish house. It contains a mosaic measuring 10.30 × 1.80 metres by the painter Joko Knežević and is located at the starting point of the Putem naših starih route in Gata.

The Church of Saint Roch has a bell dated 1518. The church stands below the Mosor cliffs next to the abandoned hamlet of Miloša.

The parish church of Saint Cyprian in Gata acquired its present form around 1750. It was built on the foundations of an early Christian basilica from the 6th century.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Gata is documented in the 1711 visitation of Archbishop Cupilli. The Church of Saint George near Gradac in Gata took its present form in 1933 at the site of a medieval church.

The parish of Gata lies in the western part of a fertile valley with many sources of fresh water.

Route

The Putem naših starih route begins at the parish church of Saint Cyprian in Gata, starts and ends in Gata, reaches an elevation of 458 metres, and combines paved and gravel surfaces.

It is 8.36 kilometres long, takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, and is classified as moderately difficult. After 2.27 kilometres, the route leads to the Church of Saint John the Baptist. It also reaches the Church of Saint George near Gradac and offers views towards the canyon.

Surroundings

The Gata–Omiš viewpoint is located nearby. There are parking facilities in its vicinity, and admission is free. However, the access road has no pavement.
