The Franciscan Monastery of Saint Mary in Zaostrog is one of the area's significant cultural heritage sites. Above the church entrance is an inscription in Bosančica dating from 1589. The monastery also includes a library with around 20,000 books, an archival collection, a permanent exhibition featuring works by Mladen Veža, and a botanical garden with more than 250 plant species.

The monastery's south-facing entrance on the seaside leads to the museum, library, botanical garden, and Mladen Veža Memorial Gallery. When planning a trip, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Zaostrog.

Culture

Above Zaostrog, below Mount Viter, lie the remains of Ostrog Fortress; a viewpoint is located there. In the village, the stone-lined stream channel carries a mountain stream to the sea and is a protected cultural and historical monument.

Several chapels add to the character of the village: the Chapel of Saint Anthony stands in the village of Zaostrog and was built in 1893. The Chapel of Our Lady near Kučine in Zaostrog dates from 1911, while the Chapel of Saint Elijah near Prosiko in Zaostrog dates from 1894.

The Gothic Church of Saint Barbara has a cemetery and a Baroque bell tower. The present parish church of Saint Barbara was built in 1872.
