Podaca: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
On the slopes of Biokovo lies the rural settlement of Podaca, which is registered as a cultural heritage site. In the area around the village square stands St. John’s Church, an old Croatian church dating from the 11th to 12th century, associated with the graves of members of the Kačić family.
Culture and History
The parish church of St. Stephen in Podaca dates from the 18th century. The Podaca Tower is also part of the local landscape, an irregular, two-storey structure on a cliff. Glagolitic graffiti were found inside St. John’s Church.
The rural settlement comprises residential and farm complexes belonging to former winegrowers, olive growers and livestock farmers.
Events and Cuisine
Biklijada 2026 is scheduled to take place on 16 September in the Old Village of Podaca. At Biklijada, Bikla is prepared by mixing wine and milk. In addition, a cageball tournament is planned in Podaca from 21 to 23 August 2026.
Traditional fasting foods eaten in Podaca on Christmas Eve included Pršule and Kroštule.
