Markovac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Markovac is situated on a gentle hill at the end of the Kaštelir–Višnjan road; from here, the view extends over large parts of northern Poreština to the sea. Traditional agriculture in the village focuses in particular on winegrowing.

Wine and agriculture

Vina BERNOBIĆ dates the beginning of its winemaking history in Markovac back to 1898. The wines of Vina BERNOBIĆ include traditional macerated Malvasia, Teran and Refošk.

Poletti has been growing grapes in Markovac since 1842. The vineyards are situated on deep Istrian red soil, cover seven hectares and are spread across seven grape varieties. Guided tastings are offered in connection with the Poletti winery.

Cycling and routes

The Istrian Wine trail (156) is a cycling tour that passes through Markovac. Official cycle route 104, titled “On the Edges of Poreč”, also runs through the village.

Culture and history

A Gothic chapel in Markovac is dedicated to Saint Helena and Saint Agatha and dates from the 14th century.

The Chapel of St. Helena of the Cross was restored in 1876. Its bell gable carries a bell. Inside, there is a masonry altar with a wooden retable and figures of Saint Helena, Saint Agatha and Saint Anthony.

The religious gatherings at the Chapel of St. Helena are described as taking place three times a year.
