Municipality of Marčana – Coast, Culture and Trails

The Municipality of Marčana lies north of Pula at the intersection of the Pula–Labin and Vodnjan–Krnica roads. The municipality brings together a distinctive Adriatic coastline, stories of local crafts, historic churches and a variety of trails. The municipality’s coastline is 36 kilometres long, stretching from Raša Bay in the north to Budava Bay in the south. Rakalj and the municipality’s culture

The parish church of St Peter and Paul in Marčana dates from the 15th century. Pilgrimage, walking trail and cycling route

A pilgrimage takes place each year on the second Sunday in October at the Church of Our Lady of Health in Hreljići. This set date is particularly useful if you want to plan your trip around this religious custom. Separately, the 193-kilometre Camino South Istria pilgrimage route also passes through the Municipality of Marčana. The pilgrimage in Hreljići and the long-distance route offer two different points of interest for a trip with a spiritual focus.

There are also specific points of interest for cycling. The House of Cycling in Loborika displays historical results, photographs, medals and trophies of BK Loborika, as well as a video about cyclist Nevio Valčić’s life and sporting achievements. Cycling route 344 Marčana starts below the settlement of Marčana, at Lokve Kalić. Alongside the cultural sites, cycling history and a named starting point for a cycling route are therefore distinct options within the municipality.
