Plitvička Jezera refers to the national park that has been Croatia’s first national park since 1949 and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The basis for this recognition is the ongoing tufa barrier formation process through which the lakes are created. The Plitvička Jezera National Park consists of 16 lakes in total, connected by waterfalls.

Nature
The landscape includes the Čorkova Uvala primeval forest. It covers 84 hectares in a beech-fir forest at elevations between 860 and 1,028 meters.
Špilja Šupljara is a geomorphological natural monument and the only cave in the park open to visitors. Three chambers are connected by a spacious corridor; the cave is 68 meters long in total.
Tomićevo pogledalo is a viewpoint at 684.82 meters above sea level. From there, panoramic views extend across five lakes in Plitvička Jezera National Park.
Hiking and Trails
The Medveđak ridge offers hiking routes through old beech forest and information panels. It also provides panoramic views of parts of the Plitvice Lakes and the surrounding mountain and valley landscape.
Visitor Program A is 3,500 meters long and takes two to three hours. The Poučno–rekreativna staza Plitvica trail runs from Labudovac to Veliki slap and to the P3 boat dock in Kozjačka draga.
Tomićevo pogledalo can be reached on foot; the ascent takes approximately 20 minutes.
Winter
The Mukinje ski area is located in the village of Mukinje, approximately 2.5 kilometers from Park Entrance 2. Mukinje has a drag lift with a capacity of 400 skiers per hour. The village also offers slopes approximately 400 meters long and opportunities for sledding.
History and Surroundings
The Carska visitor house on Velika Poljana above Kozjak is associated with the year 1861, which is considered the beginning of tourism at the Plitvice Lakes.
Turčić is located in the immediate vicinity of Plitvička Jezera. Velika Pećina, Široki Rt, and Rasovački Ogradak are located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area are Radetina Kula, Sveta Petka, Sveti Petka, and Sveti Nikola.
