Landscape

The areas around Gornji Babin Potok are considered some of the best-preserved cultural landscapes in the park. The Babin potok stream flows through Gornji Babin Potok. It is described as a slow-flowing, weak watercourse that dries up at times.

Culture and History

Near Gornji Babin Potok–Brezovac lies the prehistoric hillfort of Obljaj, which dates from the Early Iron Age. Obljaj is also considered one of several fortifications built to control the roads from Vrela towards Otočac. Obljajčić, a prehistoric hillfort from the Early Iron Age, is also located in the Gornji Babin Potok–Brezovac area. Vršeljak in Gornji Babin Potok is a prehistoric fortified settlement.

The remains of the medieval Church of Saint George are located in Vreline near Gornji Babin Potok. The wooden two-storey house at Čudin Klanac, house no. 4, is considered one of the oldest in Plitvice Lakes National Park. Within Gornji Babin Potok, Čudin Klanac forms a characteristic group of preserved traditional farmsteads in a natural setting.

A memorial plaque at the former cooperative building in Gornji Babin Potok marks a Second World War memorial site. The former school building in Gornji Babin Potok is recognised both as a cultural heritage feature and, within Plitvice Lakes National Park, as a cultural heritage feature.
