Vladaya: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Nature
Vladaya provides access to hiking trails in the northwestern part of Vitosha. From the village, a trail follows the Vladaiska River to Zlatni Mostove; over five kilometers, it climbs approximately 500 meters in elevation. The route also branches off toward the Selimitsa Hut and nearby recreational facilities. The Vladaiska River flows downhill through a deep, steep, wooded valley toward Vladaya.
Hiking Routes
Several trails from Vladaya are described with their own time and elevation details. The Vladaya–Zlatni Mostove route takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and climbs 560 meters. The trail to Ostritsa Hut takes approximately 2 hours 40 minutes and ascends 811 meters; along the way, it leads into a dense old forest where fallen trees, shrubs, and tall vegetation can make progress almost impossible. The Vladaya–White Birches route takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and climbs 495 meters. It passes through a mixed forest of Scots pine and naturally regenerating deciduous trees.
The White Birches Trail is 3.2 kilometers long, descends 440 meters, and is rated as technically very difficult. It ends at Vladaya Avenue in the direction of Tihiya Nook. The Vladaya–Selimitsa route takes approximately 3 hours 15 minutes, while the trail to the St Ivan Rilski site is listed as taking approximately 40 minutes. Along the Vladaya–Zlatni Mostove route, about ten minutes uphill from the water intake, there is a rest shelter with a fire pit, benches, and tables.
Culture and History
The Vladaya Monastery of St. Petka stands at the foot of the Lyulin Mountains, opposite Vladaya railway station and approximately 1 kilometer from Vladaya. It was founded during the Second Bulgarian Empire and destroyed by crusaders in 1328. The monastery is an active convent.
A local tradition connects the St Ivan Rilski site with monks who spent the night there while carrying the relics of a saint to the Rila Monastery.
