Sofia: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sofia offers central historical and cultural sites; at the same time, Vitosha is just 8 km from the centre of Sofia and rises at Cherni Vrah to a summit of over 2,000 m. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sofia can then continue their search for accommodation. Cultural, religious, SPA, health, eco- and adventure tourism have all been developed in the Sofia Tourist Region.

Culture

A central Sofia route is approximately 5 km long and is described as a 180-minute walk; visiting the listed sites is stated to take 5 to 6 hours. Sofia's central cultural heritage route connects Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St. Sofia Church, the ancient Serdika remains, the Largo, the Sofia History Museum, St. Nedelya Church, Vitosha Boulevard, the National Palace of Culture, the Lovers' Bridge, the National Museum Earth and Man, and South Park.

The West Gate of Serdika Archaeological Park is an open-air archaeological park with free access for visitors. The National Gallery is Bulgaria's largest art museum and preserves more than 41,000 works of painting, sculpture, graphic art, decorative art and contemporary art. Its Palace branch presents temporary exhibitions of Bulgarian and foreign art in the former royal palace.

Sofia Municipality operates open-air galleries at the Lovers' Bridge by the National Palace of Culture, in the City Garden, in Crystal Garden and in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture. Boyana Church preserves frescoes painted in 1259, considered one of the important collections of medieval painting.

Nature and Trails

Vitosha is described as the oldest nature park on the Balkan Peninsula and contains more than 1,400 plant species. Its landscape features include a moraine stone river that is approximately 2 km long and 300 m wide. Duhlata Cave is described as being 13.2 km long and inhabited by more than 20 cave-dwelling animal species.

Vitosha offers family outings, picnics, outdoor games for children, climbing, paragliding and mountain biking during the warmer seasons. The route from Aleko Hut to Cherni Vrah is described as a two-hour ascent. In addition, the European long-distance path E-4 crosses Vitosha on its route between the Pyrenees, the Alps and the Peloponnese.

Winter

The Aleko Ski and Snowboard Centre has more than ten north-facing ski runs at an altitude of approximately 1,800 m. Access from Sofia to the Vitosha ski slopes is provided by two lifts that can be reached by public transport. The Simeonovo cable car can take visitors directly to Aleko Hut.
