Yavornitsa: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Yavornitsa lies at the northern foot of Mount Belasitsa, while the Yavornishka River flows through the village. Yavornitsa is located within the territory of Belasitsa Nature Park. In the wider Belasitsa region, protected zone BG0000167, designated under the Habitats Directive, forms part of Natura 2000.
Hiking
The path to Yavornishki Waterfall begins in the center of Yavornitsa, follows the gorge of the Yavornishka River for 2.8 km, and takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. It is described as suitable for walks with children and picnics. The “Butterflies and Flowers of Belasitsa” route provides information about butterflies and flowering plants. Yavornishki Waterfall is described as the conclusion of the Yavornitsa route and is associated with a picturesque natural view.
Culture
Six houses in Yavornitsa are designated as cultural monuments. The Anton Popov Community Center maintains groups for authentic folklore, arranged folklore, singing, and folk dancing. It also takes part in international, district, and municipal festivals and gatherings, and performs in Romania, Greece, and North Macedonia.
The annual village gathering of Yavornitsa takes place on May 24. The church festival on May 11 includes a kurban ceremony at the church. Preserved older residential buildings in Yavornitsa reflect the house-building traditions of the Rhodopes and Ograzhden–Maleshevo; in some courtyards, chardak barns with frame-and-wattle construction have been preserved.
History
In Ottoman registers from 1570 and 1664, Yavornitsa is mentioned under the name Yavorniche. A relief slab depicting three nymphs from antiquity was found in Yavornitsa and on the lands belonging to it.
In the nearby area north of Yavornitsa lies the Graka Chuka locality, with a Thracian tumulus necropolis consisting of eight burial mounds dating from the Late Iron Age and antiquity. Remains of ancient settlements have also been found in the surrounding area.
