Kamena: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kamena is one of the settlements whose land areas are included in Belasitsa Nature Park. The park encompasses the northern slopes of the Belasitsa Mountains. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Kamena can then continue searching for accommodation.

Nature

Belasitsa Nature Park lists a marked short route from Kamena to a waterfall, the chapel, and back to Kamena. The trail to Kameshnishki Waterfall begins on the outskirts of Kamena. It rises gently along the right bank of the Kameshnitsa River and crosses the river after about 10 minutes via a wooden bridge. After approximately 30 to 40 minutes on foot, a shelter with a table and benches is reached.

Kameshnishki Waterfall is 21 metres high. A wooden bridge in front of the waterfall provides a better viewing position. In addition, a municipal list of mountain trails includes an eight-hour round trip from Kamena to Kameshnishki Waterfalls.

Culture

A marked tourist route leads through the Velikdenska Church site. The foundations of an old church are visible at this location. In the vicinity of Kamena, traces of a settlement probably dating from the Late Neolithic were found in Suhiya Dol (Koriendek), approximately 3 km north of the village. Remains of an ancient fortress were also discovered in Suhiya Dol and nearby Kadresh.

Kamena's church festival takes place on 2 May, Borisovden. The village festival is celebrated on 6 May, St George's Day.

Local Life

In the 19th century, Kamena produced sesame oil and wine. Beekeepers in Kamena produce acacia and chestnut honey. Bus connections operate between Kamena, Petrich, and the neighbouring foothill villages.
