Holiday apartment in Podrašnica: Zelenkovac, mills and stećak culture
Podrašnica is particularly impressive through the neighbouring natural and cultural area of Zelenkovac. Zelenkovac is a mountain excursion area beside the village of Podrašnica. Between nature, traditional structures and events, a local character emerges that is shaped as much by the history of the surrounding area as by its landscape.
Nature
The Zelenkovac excursion area encompasses a valley formed by the stream of the same name. The stream rises on the western slopes of Mount Lisina and flows through a pine forest. In April 2002, Zelenkovac was granted the status of an ecological zone. Several wooden cottages, bungalows, mills, benches and wooden bridges were built there. These elements are just as much a part of the area as the stream and the wooded slopes.
Culture and history
The historical connection of Podrašnica also reaches far back: on its route through western Bosnia, the Roman road from Salona to Servitium passed through Podrašnica. Around fifteen watermills were built by the stream in Zelenkovac several centuries ago. One of these watermills was converted into the studio of the artist Borislav Janković in 1985. In this converted mill, he opened the art gallery “Zašto nije otišao Boro!?”.
The gallery houses an extensive collection of artworks, ethnographic objects and other cultural items. Thus, Zelenkovac is not only centred on the history of its mills, but also on the connection between its traditional surroundings and artistic creation.
Above Podrašnica lies the Mramorje necropolis, with around 150 stećak tombstones. It is about 20 minutes from the road and offers unobstructed views across the Podrašničko polje. The smaller stećak necropolis “Malo mramorje”, with around 20 tombstones, is also recorded for Podrašnica. Another reminder of the village’s history is a memorial fountain: it was unveiled in Podrašnica in honour of 16 Thessaloniki fighters and First World War volunteers from the village.
Events and local cuisine
One of the defining events in Zelenkovac is the jazz festival, which has been held for a quarter of a century. A Go tournament is also among the events held there. In Zelenkovac, visitors are also offered homemade food prepared over an open fire.
The included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions are equally important. Depending on your travel plans, you can compare the offers side by side using these specific details and carefully review the stated conditions before booking. When comparing them, pay attention to which services are already included in the price and whether any additional costs are listed. For personal planning, the services specified in the offer and any additional costs may also be decisive. Checking the cancellation policies shows which conditions apply in each case. This allows the visible holiday apartment offers to be compared objectively, without assuming features that are not expressly stated for an individual offer.
