Nature
The wild horses of Livno live on the approximately 150-square-kilometre Kruzi plateau between the city of Livno to the south and Mount Cincar to the north. The area cannot be reached by private car; an off-road vehicle is required, and a guide familiar with the area is recommended. Local organisations offer organised visits to the wild horses of Livno.
Crvenice is a natural attraction and part of the hydrogeological wealth in the Livno foothills. The karst river Bistrica flows through Livno from north to south and divides the city into two unequal parts.
Culture
The old town of Livno, also known as Bistrički grad, is designated as a historic area. Most na Dumanu was built at the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century and is regarded as a symbol of Livno’s architectural heritage.
Veis-kula is the largest and best-preserved of Livno’s historic towers. Its interior diameter is 3.5 metres, and the walls are up to 3.8 metres thick.
The Lala-pašina Mosque was built in 1577/1578 behind Livno’s old town, in Begluk. In 2004, it was placed under state protection and declared a national monument. Its complex includes a sundial by Hadži Jusuf Livnjak and a courtyard with rare surviving nišans.
Museum and Art
The Franjevački muzej i galerija Gorica Livno has archaeological, ethnographic, old weapons, sacred, philatelic and art collections. They reflect the cultural and historical development from prehistory to the present day.
The Franciscans opened the Gabriel Jurkić Memorial Gallery in 1995. The Gabriel Jurkić collection at FMGG-Livno now comprises more than 200 works and 6,000 drawings. The museum houses a permanent memorial exhibition with paintings by Gabriel Jurkić that is open to the public; visitors can also visit the monastery church.
A virtual tour of FMGG-Livno is available. It enables visitors to explore the church and the museum exhibitions, as well as to view the exhibits in greater detail.
Regional Speciality
Livanjski sir is presented as a brand from Livno and was the first product from Bosnia and Herzegovina to be entered in the EU register of geographical indications. In Livno, original Livanjski sir can be purchased from the dairy that began producing it.
Active Adventures
Cycling routes in and around Livno lead through hilly landscapes along mountains, rivers, lakes and forests. Canoe excursions lasting one and a half hours are offered for children and adults. Each option includes a guide, photos and a souvenir; afterwards, relaxation in nature with local products is planned.
