Holiday apartment in Drvar: Cave, spring and regional culture

Drvar combines Tito’s Cave, impressive spring landscapes, historic sites and culinary traditions. Tito’s Cave was reopened to visitors on 25 May 2006. This provides a specific focal point where the municipality’s distinctive history connects with other natural and cultural destinations in the surrounding area.

Culture

The “25. maj” Museum cultural landscape memorial complex in Drvar is listed as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This national monument includes the main building of the “25. maj” Museum and Tito’s Villa. Together, these sites form a clearly defined cultural focal point within Drvar. The 24th edition of the “Dan drvarske drenjine” event also takes place at the “25. maj” memorial complex below Tito’s Cave in Drvar.

Nature

The Bastašica Spring is located about five kilometres from Drvar in the village of Bastasi. Its surrounding landscape is characterised by high, vertical rocky cliffs; near its source, the Bastašica forms several waterfalls. The area around the spring also has a marked path with benches, protective railings and a wooden bridge.

History

In the area around Visuć Grad, visitors can see the gorge of the Visućica River, the medieval Visuć Grad fortress and a reconstructed medieval church. Visuć Grad is a medieval fortress in Šipovljani, within the municipality of Drvar. The site thus brings together the river gorge, a fortress complex and a church whose present condition indicates that it was reconstructed.

Regional traditions

“Dan drvarske drenjine” focuses on a regional specialty. At the event, visitors can watch the production of Drenja schnapps, sample specialties and buy authentic regional products. This insight is complemented by a tradition preserved by individual families: the production of beaten Pekmez has been passed down there from generation to generation for more than 50 years. Both examples show regional food not as a general category, but as specific traditions of production and transmission.
