Yala offers many different reasons to plan a trip: in Betong District, a sea of mist, a tall observation structure, a waterfall and a hot spring are among the special experiences. There are also places with their own history and opportunities to explore Betong on foot or by bicycle. If you want to combine nature and culture, you can start by considering which of these interests you’d like to shape your stay when choosing a holiday rental.

Sea of mist and views in Aiyerweng

The Aiyerweng Sea of Mist is located in the Betong National Forest Reserve, in the Tambon of Aiyerweng, Amphoe Betong. The name refers to a landscape experience that is distinct from the province’s urban and cultural attractions. Also known as Aiyerweng is a six-storey skywalk standing 45 metres tall. As an observation structure, it is another option for travellers who want to experience Yala from above. Both names provide specific points of reference when planning a trip to Betong District.

River landscape and waterfall

The Pattani River rises in Amphoe Betong and flows through Amphoe Than To, Bannang Sata and Mueang Yala within Yala Province. In the Tambon of Bacho, Amphoe Bannang Sata, the Bang Lang Dam was built where the river flows through a mountainous area. If the river or dam is of particular interest, you can take these places into account separately when choosing where to stay.

Chalermprakiat R.9 Waterfall plunges over a cliff more than 30 metres high. From the car park, it is about a 400-metre walk to the waterfall. Along the way, there are several places where visitors can swim in clear streams. A visit therefore combines a short walk with an opportunity to enjoy the water; the distance from the car park is a useful reference when planning activities for the day. The waterfall and streams offer a different focus from Betong’s viewpoints and historic sites.

History and culture in Betong

The Piyamit Tunnel in Piyamit 2 Village is one kilometre long. In the past, it served as a hideout and storehouse for a group involved in a political conflict on the Malay Peninsula. The tunnel is divided into several sections, including sleeping quarters and storage rooms.

Betong Central Mosque also tells the story of the local community: it was restored through the joint efforts of the local Muslim community and became a special focal point for the community. Another part of the town’s history is Betong’s large postbox. It has stood at the corner of Sukyang Road, by the clock tower, since the year 2467. It was erected as a symbol of communication in Betong and is still in use for receiving letters. Along with the tunnel, visitors interested in local history and culture can find examples connected with community life and communication in Betong.

Hot spring and city life

Betong Hot Spring is a natural mineral spring in Ban Nam Ron Village, in the Tambon of Tano Maero, Amphoe Betong. It has a large pool where visitors can bathe and soak their feet. The spring water is about 80°C and can cook an egg in seven minutes. The spring thus combines a bathing experience with an unusual property of its hot water.

For a quieter or more active time in the city, the Betong Municipality Stadium is also used for walking, cycling, running and playing football. From the elevated area at the edge of the stadium, visitors can enjoy a view of Betong. If you want to combine these urban experiences with nature outings in the district, you can start by sorting your holiday rental search according to your interests rather than treating all the destinations as one single excursion area.

More ideas and regional orientation

The Tourism Authority of Thailand recommends hiking on nature trails in Yala. For a different way to explore the province, it recommends a tour of Yala city to see its old buildings. These suggestions cater to two different interests: spending time outdoors or learning about older urban architecture.

For orientation within the province, the direct destinations lead to Betong District and Mueang Yala District. Other destinations at the same level are Sisaket, Roi Et, Nonthaburi, Satun, Mukdahan and Khon Kaen.
