Discover Betong District
Accommodation in Betong District
A glass walkway above a sea of mist, rare wildlife in the forest and a tunnel with a turbulent history: Betong District in Yala Province brings together very different discoveries. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, you can plan your trip around views, nature, culture or recurring festivals. The destinations are in different named locations, so first consider which experiences matter most to you.
Views of the Sea of Mist
The Aiyerweng Skywalk is located in Ban Tharn Mali in the Aiyerweng subdistrict. Its 61-metre-long walkway is made of transparent glass and offers a 360-degree panoramic view. The Sea of Mist can be seen from the skywalk throughout the year. The site is therefore characterised by the combination of a glass walkway and sweeping views.
The Khunung Silipat viewpoint also offers a 360-degree view of a Sea of Mist that can be seen there year-round. Both places are therefore known for panoramic views, while the skywalk additionally features the distinctive 61-metre glass walkway. If you choose your accommodation based on what you’d most like to see, you can distinguish between this unique viewing structure and the Khunung Silipat viewpoint.
Forest nature and wildlife
The Hala section of the Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary is in Betong District. The area is home to rare wildlife such as Malayan tapirs, rhinos and siamangs. Hornbills are also notably well represented: the sanctuary is home to ten species, out of a total of 13 hornbill species in Thailand. This diversity makes wildlife a distinct focus for trip planning, alongside the district’s viewpoints and cultural sites.
A walking trail more than six kilometres long led from the Hala base to a hornbill-watching point in the forest. The trail connects the base to a clearly named destination and a specific distance. Inthason Waterfall also has a natural pool for swimming. Thus, nature-focused activities include both wildlife watching and a water experience.
History, temples and flowers
The Piyamit Tunnel is a reminder of political conflicts on the Malay Peninsula: during these conflicts, it was used as a hideout and to store supplies. Its historical function is quite different from the scenic experiences and wildlife. Those interested in history will find a specific point of interest here, without needing to treat a visit to the tunnel as equivalent to a nature or temple visit.
Wat Phutthathiwat is a temple on a hill in Betong subdistrict. Its chedi is designed in the Sri Vijaya art style, and Buddha relics are kept in the main chedi. The temple therefore offers several specific aspects for culturally minded visitors: its hillside location, the chedi’s artistic style and the relics kept there.
The Winter Flower Garden is in Piyamit 2 village in Tanoh Maeroa subdistrict. Flowers grown there include tulips, lilies, hydrangeas and chrysanthemums. The different flower varieties give the garden a distinctive character among Betong District’s destinations. When making your selection, you can consider this floral attraction alongside views, forest nature and culture as another possible focus for your trip.
Festivals and choosing your accommodation
Betong’s Vegetarian Festival takes place every year at Wat Phothisatto Chao Mae Kuan Im Betong, also known as Wat Kuannim. The Betong Chicken Festival is also held every year, in early April. If a festival is part of your travel plans, this difference in timing is useful: the Chicken Festival is held in early April, while the Vegetarian Festival takes place annually.
When looking for a holiday rental, you can base your choice of location on the experiences that matter most to you. The skywalk is in Ban Tharn Mali in Aiyerweng subdistrict; the natural hot spring is in Ban Nam Ron and the Winter Flower Garden is in Piyamit 2 village, both in Tanoh Maeroa subdistrict; Wat Phutthathiwat is in Betong subdistrict. Compare the location of your accommodation with the places you plan to visit rather than deciding based only on the name of the district in general. For location-level orientation, you can also explore Betong; another destination can be found under Mueang Yala District.
