Roi Et offers different perspectives on culture and regional traditions: a Brahmanic shrine, a large Buddhist structure, a museum and destinations centred around water sit alongside crafts and festivals. Even on a single trip, you can focus on different interests, such as history and art, views or relaxing by a lake. Which of these aspects appeals to you most may influence your choice of holiday rental in Roi Et.

Shrines and Impressive Structures

Ku Kasing, also known as Wat Burapha Ku Kasing Noi, is a Brahmanic shrine built in the 16th Buddhist century under the influence of Khmer culture. Within its walls, the complex comprises three prasat towers and two library buildings. The Fine Arts Department registered Ku Kasing as an ancient monument on 8 March 2478 in the Buddhist calendar. Its architecture, religious background and clearly defined arrangement of buildings give a visit a distinctive cultural focus.

Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol is on a different scale: the six-storey chedi measures 101 metres in width, length and height. Eight smaller chedis surround the main structure. Roi Et is also home to a 68-metre-tall walking Buddha statue at Wat Buraphaphiram. A staircase leads up to knee height. The dimensions and varied forms—the chedi, smaller chedis and walking statue—make these religious structures destinations in their own right, rather than reducing them to a single impression.

Museum, Views and Water

The Roi Et National Museum presents the province from several perspectives. Its themes include geography and geology, as well as archaeology, history, notable figures, local life, traditions and handicrafts. Life-size scenes of Chinese life in Roi Et and multimedia information systems complement the exhibits. Visitors who enjoy moving between landscapes, the past and everyday culture will find a range of subjects brought together in one museum.

For views across the city, Roi Et Tower 101 offers an open observation point. The tower is more than 101 metres high, and from the top you can see 360 degrees across Roi Et. Roi Et City Aquarium offers a different focus: it displays fish from the Mekong, the Chi, the Mun and the rest of northeastern Thailand. A sweeping panoramic view and insights into regional fish life thus offer two very different experiences.

Bung Phlan Chai is a public provincial park with an island in the lake. Bueng Kluea has water year-round and is visited for recreation, particularly during festivals. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a park with an island and a lake that is also visited as a place to relax in connection with festivals. These waterside destinations offer a different focus from the religious structures and exhibitions.

Handicrafts and Regional Festivals

Handicrafts and textiles are also part of Roi Et’s cultural heritage. One of the province’s notable handicrafts is the Isan khaen, a wind instrument. The finest Isan khaen handicrafts are made in the small village of Si Kaew in Roi Et. Thanon Phadung Phanit is a worthwhile destination for silk and cotton fabrics. Alongside its structures, you can explore Roi Et through its instrument-making craft and textiles.

Roi Et is known for traditional rocket festivals, which took place in several locations across the province in May and June. At the International Plum Blossom Lion Dance Championship, held at the Saket Nakhon grounds in Srinakarin Roi Et Park, lion dance competitions took place on high poles; there were also dragon dances and Chinese cultural performances.

For a regional overview, you can also explore these subordinate destinations: Kaset Wisai District, Khon Kaen, Khwan Mueang, Nai Mueang and Na Mueang.
