Jermuk: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jermuk is located among forests and mountains at an altitude of 2,080 metres above sea level. The town lies on a plateau divided by the Arpa River Gorge. In the centre of Jermuk, the Gallery of Water stands beside a small artificial lake; there, natural springs are channelled to five metal taps, from which water flows at temperatures of 30 to 57 °C.

Culture

The Jermuk Art Gallery, a branch of the National Gallery of Armenia, displays paintings, sculptures and ceramics in temporary and permanent exhibitions. Its public programme includes lectures and workshops.

Water and Thermal Springs

Hotels and spas in Jermuk offer special treatments, therapeutic massages and rejuvenating facial treatments. The thermal springs of Jermuk are regarded as springs that have been renowned for their healing properties for centuries. Both the still and sparkling varieties of Jermuk water also come directly from the area's mineral springs.

The heart-shaped hot springs are located approximately five kilometres outside Jermuk in a forest. A 40- to 60-minute walk with stream crossings leads there.

Nature and Activities

The Arpa River can be followed through Jermuk: bridges offer views, and access to the riverbank is via more than 100 steps. The Jermuk Waterfall plunges 70 metres into the Arpa River gorge and is known locally as Mermaid's Hair.

In the area around Jermuk, the Gndevank Trail follows old footpaths through the Arpa River Canyon to the 10th-century Gndevank Monastery. The Kechut Reservoir, with a star-shaped spillway, is also located near Jermuk on the Arpa River.

Jermuk offers climbing expeditions with local professionals. Rope jumping is possible at Jermuk Bridge. During the winter season, skiing and snowboarding are available in Jermuk.

Landscape and Surroundings

The protected areas listed in the Vayots Dzor region include the Jermuk Hydrological State Sanctuary and the Jermuk Forest State Sanctuary.

Getting There

Jermuk is connected to Yerevan by two highways. The shorter Yeraskh–Jermuk–Yerevan route is approximately 170 kilometres long.
