Chiva: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Chiva can then continue searching for accommodation. Chiva is included in Armenia’s officially designated tourist destination “Areni”.

Rural Character

Chiva is associated with horticulture and livestock farming. The town’s main agricultural products are consumed locally and in Yerevan. An Armenian OVOP initiative for tourism development was implemented in Chiva and Rind. Local stakeholders described agritourism as a possible option for local development in Chiva and Rind. This initiative was associated with a wide variety of fresh and processed agricultural products.

Cuisine and Handicrafts

At the Ghazaryan family’s home, methods for producing beverages have been passed down through generations. Guest workshops include making cheese, gata, khorovats, dolma and harissa, as well as baking lavash in a tonir. Guests can crush grapes at the Ghazaryan family’s home and learn how wine is made.

In the guesthouse garden, visitors can hand-pick fruit and vegetables; more than 30 varieties of fruit are also tasted there. The guesthouse serves homemade dishes prepared with locally grown produce. Apple and walnut orchards associated with the guesthouse can be visited.

The “Noravank” guesthouse in Chiva has been operating since 1999. In 2006, it was converted into a traditional guesthouse. In 2019, a gastrobar was added, creating an opportunity for wine tasting on site. The Ghazaryan family’s gastrobar is described as producing approximately two tonnes of wine annually.

The highlands of Vayots Dzor have potential for hiking, horse-riding and mountain-biking trails.

Nature

Wildlife-watching cabins have been opened in Chiva as an ecotourism facility. The cabins accommodate two to three people and have internet access as well as a limited solar-powered electricity supply.

The wildlife-watching cabins in Chiva are connected to orchard areas where brown bears, bezoar goats, wild boars, foxes and hares can be observed.
