Culture and History
The historic settlement of Ulgyur lies within the administrative areas of Aghavnadzor and Rind. Ulgyur is the birthplace of the 13th-century medieval Armenian architect, miniaturist, and sculptor Momik. According to reports, Momik built a small chapel at his birthplace in Ulgyur.
The settlement of Ulgyur, associated with Aghavnadzor, preserves the foundations of a 13th-century Church of St. Stephen. Excavations in 1995 and 2004 in the courtyard of the chapel church in Ulgyur uncovered an ancient cemetery with rows of predominantly flat gravestones. Near the chapel church in Ulgyur stand two vishap stones: one was converted into a khachkar in 1001, while the other dates from the 11th–12th century.
