Clementina: Culture and Local Festivals
Accommodation in Clementina
Clementina can be discovered through its cultural events and local traditions. A regular annual highlight is Semana da Cultura Nordestina: it takes place during the week that includes October 8 and appears in the municipality’s official events calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around a cultural event, this date offers a concrete guide for choosing when to stay.
The town’s settlement history also gives it a distinct character. It began with the site formerly known as Fazenda Promissão. Early agriculture included coffee plantations with around 32,000 coffee plants. Another historical landmark is 1937, when the construction of a church for the settlement was proposed. São João Batista is Clementina’s patron saint; his feast is therefore one of the occasions that reflect the religious and community spirit of local celebrations.
As part of the celebrations marking the municipality’s anniversary, Clementina held a festival for São João Batista in 2019. The programme included a procession from EMEF to Igreja Matriz, followed by a patron saint’s mass. The traditional Quermesse featured fried foods and drinks. The festival also had inflatable play equipment for children at Praça Central: bouncy castles, a slide and a ball pit. This example is especially appealing to families because it brings together a religious celebration, communal dining and activities for children within the same historical event setting.
Clementina’s festivals and markets also offer a concrete draw for food lovers. At the second Festa do Milho Verde in 2019, visitors could sample a variety of green corn specialities. The Feira de Arte, Artesanato e Horticultura has a different focus: it includes the sale and display of handicrafts, small-scale handmade products, culinary art and horticultural produce. It can also take place as a Feira Noturna, or night market; the days and locations are set by decree. Those who enjoy choosing among crafts, horticulture and culinary offerings will find a broader range of themes here than at a single food festival.
Workshops and cultural events offer further insights into tradition and creativity. The Aprendendo a Fazer Brinquedos Tradicionais workshop included making kites, spinning tops, barangandão and other traditional toys. As part of PNAB-Artesanato, free ceramics workshops were announced at a local studio: each participant was to make a cup and saucer. These workshops are quite different from events where you simply watch or sample things, since the focus here was on creating something yourself; the ceramics classes were announced.
Brilha Clementina included a dance performance by children from Academia da Saúde and a closing concert by the group Samba e Resenha in 2025. Praça Central was used for the Christmas lights. Another event example is Natal das Crianças, which took place on December 20 at Recinto Simpe Abiko. Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro has a different status: its 33rd edition was announced in 2017. So if you are choosing a holiday rental for a particular experience, it is worth considering the event you want to attend and its specific date together. Semana da Cultura Nordestina offers the annual timing mentioned above; the other examples provide insight into individual events and their respective focuses.
