Protásio Alves is part of the Termas e Longevidade da Serra tourist route. The local mix ranges from a trail featuring waterfalls, a cave, and railway landmarks to historic bells and annual events. This makes it possible to plan a stay with different priorities: explore the natural and scenic highlights of the Trilha da Barra Mansa, or focus on cultural history and the events calendar. When choosing a vacation rental, this is a useful starting point.

The Trilha da Barra Mansa: Water, a Cave, and Railway Landmarks

The Trilha da Barra Mansa passes the Parque da Imigração on its way to the Caverna dos Spanhol, then continues to the railway bridge over Arroio Barra Mansa, the railway’s kilometer-1000 milestone, Lajeadão on the Rio Turvo, and the Primavera Tunnel. It then leads back to the town center. The route therefore includes a park, cave, and stretch of river, as well as a bridge, milestone, and tunnel. Those interested in scenery will find small and large waterfalls at Lajeadão; those intrigued by local and railway history can consider the other stops as additional points of interest.

At Lajeadão on the Rio Turvo, small and large waterfalls extend over 930 meters. This section gives the route a specific waterfall focus, while its other stops explore additional themes. Check the current access conditions for the trail before your visit. The return to the town center is also part of the described route and is helpful for orientation when planning.

Bells and a Tower as Historic Landmarks

The Antiga Igreja Nossa Senhora do Rosário has three bells from Germany. Padre Antônio Serraglia acquired them in 1926, after the Igreja Matriz was built. They are named Maria (Do), Antônia (Mi), and Vitória (Sol), and together they weigh 914 kilograms. The names and notes give each bell its own designation, while their combined weight identifies them as an ensemble.

The Torre do Sino is a 25-meter-high masonry bell tower. Construction began in 1961, and it was inaugurated on August 20 of the same year. Its measurements and dates bring its construction history to life and offer another concrete point of reference for the town’s history.

Annual Events and Their Dates

The Festival da Canção Popular Italiana takes place annually in Protásio Alves; dates vary. The Jantar típico Italiano is also held annually and is one of the town’s major events. Its dates and menus change. The two occasions have different focuses: the festival celebrates Italian popular music, while the Jantar features a typical Italian meal.

For the Jantar, it is also worth checking the menu for your planned travel dates. If you are planning your trip around the Trilha, check the current access conditions in advance. You can then search for a vacation rental in Protásio Alves based on the occasion and your preferred travel dates.
