Discover Marcelino Ramos
Accommodation in Marcelino Ramos
Marcelino Ramos offers several ways to explore the surrounding area: a large protected area of native forest, hiking trails, a scenic viewpoint, a train ride and places of religious significance. Swimming at a waterfall and buying regional products are also among the experiences described. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether you would like to focus mainly on nature, a train ride, culture or time by the water.
Forest and Views
The Parque Natural Municipal Mata do Rio Uruguai Teixeira Soares is a protected area with 423 hectares of native forest. Within the protected area, there are six hiking trails with a total length of 7 km. If you enjoy walking, you will find a defined trail network here that can be a focus of your stay in its own right. The stated length applies to all six trails combined, not to each trail individually.
The Mirante do Pelotas offers a different view of Marcelino Ramos. It is located at one of the city’s highest points. From there, the view stretches across Lago do Uruguai and the valley; parts of Avenida Beira Rio and buildings in the Balneário district are also visible. The forest trails and the viewpoint therefore offer different perspectives on nature: on a hike, the trails in the protected area take center stage, while at the Mirante the focus is on the view across the lake, valley and parts of the city.
Aboard the Maria-Fumaça
The Maria-Fumaça train ride begins in Marcelino Ramos and follows Lago do Rio Uruguai along the Ponte Rodoferroviária to the settlement of Uruguai/SC. The train then returns to the Marcelino Ramos station. The route combines a train ride with views of the lake and bridge, and takes you to the settlement on the Santa Catarina side. This excursion is quite different from a walk along the hiking trails: you experience the route by train and return to the station where you started.
At the Estação Ferroviária de Marcelino Ramos, tourists can buy sweets, fruit, cachaça and local handicrafts. The station is also a place where you can combine a visit with browsing for regional products. The selection ranges from food to handicrafts; if you are interested in souvenirs of this kind, shopping here is a distinct part of the trip.
Religious Sites and Experiences by the Water
The Fac Simile da Aparição de Nossa Senhora da Salette depicts the apparition of Nossa Senhora da Salette. The scene shows her weeping as she speaks with shepherds, then ascending to heaven. There is a spring at the same site. Visitors take its water home because it is considered miraculous. The depiction and the tradition associated with it make a visit a different experience from the nature trails or train ride.
The Seminário Salette welcomes guests for rest and prayer; it also hosts groups for meetings and retreats. If you are interested in a stay with this religious focus, you can consider this option when planning your trip. For an experience by the water, Rancho da Cachoeira is an option: swimming at a waterfall is possible there. Alongside forest and views, Marcelino Ramos therefore offers a religiously focused visit and an experience by the water to suit different travel interests.
