Discover Guaporé: Culture, Railway and Landscape
Accommodation in Guaporé
Guaporé combines a clearly recognizable focus on fashion jewelry and lingerie with local history, gaúcho traditions and a range of experiences. Visitor highlights range from the museum and church in the center to the railway line, a lookout point and activities in the countryside. This offers a choice of interests when planning a trip: should culture shape your stay, would you prefer a ride on the excursion train, or perhaps a rural experience?
Jewelry tradition and local history
Guaporé is a national center for fashion jewelry and lingerie. Two rooms at the Museu Municipal de Guaporé showcase the history and development of these industries, which have made the town a national point of reference. The museum is housed in the historic Casa Maia, at Avenida Alberto Pasqualini, 931, in the center. Alongside the industries' significance beyond the region, their local development is also in focus.
Also in the center, next to Praça Central, is Igreja Matriz Santo Antônio. It preserves important aspects of Guaporé's colonization history, Italian culture, the Scalabrinian presence and the development of the municipality. The museum and church thus offer different perspectives: one focuses on industrial history, the other on the town's cultural and community development.
Ride the Trem dos Vales along the Ferrovia do Trigo
Guaporé railway station is the arrival and departure point for the Trem dos Vales excursion train. The route between Guaporé and Muçum runs along the Ferrovia do Trigo and passes through 23 tunnels and over 15 viaducts. These numbers give the railway route a distinctive profile and make it a highlight in its own right, alongside experiences in the town center. If you plan a ride, check the timetable before making specific plans.
Views and waterfall
Cristo Redentor stands on Morro do Gallon, the highest point in Guaporé, and offers panoramic views of the town and several municipalities in the region. At Salto do Taquara, a different landscape feature takes center stage: the waterfall complex is about 50 meters high. It is on private property; visitors are advised to ask the owner for permission before visiting. Confirming permission is therefore explicitly part of planning this outing.
Fishing and a guided tour in the countryside
Pesque Pague Giaretta is in the rural area of Guaporé, about five kilometers from town, and covers 18,000 square meters. Beginners and experienced anglers can fish for various types of carp, tilapia, catfish and jundiá there. Check directly with the provider whether fishing is available at the time of your visit.
Pesque Pague Giaretta also offers a guided tour of about one hour, with explanations of production processes and product lines, followed by a tasting of five wines, sparkling wines and juices. The tour requires advance booking; confirm availability directly. Fishing and the tour appeal to different interests but share the same rural setting in Guaporé.
Semana Farroupilha: culture and cuisine
Semana Farroupilha had been celebrated in Guaporé since 1985, bringing the community together around gaúcho traditionalist culture, music, dance and typical cuisine from Rio Grande do Sul. At the XXXVI Semana Farroupilha in 2025, the 30th Cavalgada da Amizade brought riders together from various regions. At that edition, 50 Piquetes were spread across Parque Farroupilha and Praça Central. The program also included the first Festival da Boia Campeira, celebrating gaúcho cuisine. Visitors from other states also experienced traditionalist culture and sampled traditional gaúcho barbecue. This information refers to the 2025 edition; it does not describe a future program.
Choose a vacation rental based on your interests
When looking for a vacation rental, the difference between the town center and the countryside can be a useful starting point. The museum, Igreja Matriz and railway station are in the center; Pesque Pague Giaretta is in the countryside, about five kilometers from town. Consider which of these highlights matters to your trip and focus your search accordingly. This way, you can choose a location based on your planned interests rather than presenting any particular area as the best option for everyone.
