Marshall County combines Lake Maxinkuckee with nature experiences, regional history and special events. The lake is Indiana’s second-largest natural lake and provides a clear focus for trip planning. On the west shore, there is public access to the water, while Culver Marina offers lake tours as well as stand-up paddleboard and kayak rentals. Those who enjoy alternating between water, walks and cultural discoveries will find different options here for planning their vacation days.

Lake, River and Trails for Active Days

Potawatomi Wildlife Park offers nearly five miles of trails. They are open daily from sunrise to sunset. In addition, a limited number of canoes and kayaks are available there for rent on the Tippecanoe River. This makes it possible to consider hiking and water experiences separately when planning a trip, without assuming a fixed daily schedule.

The Plymouth Greenways Trail offers a shorter route: The walking trail is 2.1 miles long and runs along the Yellow River. Compared with the nearly five miles at Potawatomi Wildlife Park, this route can serve as a separate activity for a shorter walk. At Plymouth Speedway, on the other hand, you will find a banked asphalt track measuring three-eighths of a mile. For a trip with varied interests, nature, water and motorsports can each provide their own distinct focus.

History and Culture in the County

The Bremen History Center is free for visitors and is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; visits are also possible by appointment. Exhibits include postal memorabilia, scale models, historical artifacts and photographs. At the restored B&O Depot in Bremen, railroad memorabilia, railroad tools and several interpretive exhibits take center stage.

The MoonTree Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. In addition, MoonTree Studios offers art experiences and intensive courses led by experienced artists. Those interested in regional commemorative culture can also include the Chief Menominee Statue in their itinerary. It was erected by the State of Indiana on September 4, 1909, as a memorial to the Potawatomi Indians. The Trail of Death begins at this statue south of Plymouth.

Located on Lake Maxinkuckee is the 1,800-acre campus of Culver Academies. The Culver Academies Museum presents the beginnings of the Culver Military Academy through rare artifacts. The grounds of the Culver Park Department include a beach house, a railroad depot and two open pavilions. The REES Theatre hosts concerts, screens films and offers community theater. The Tri-Way Drive-In Theatre is also one of the few remaining operating drive-in theaters in the state of Indiana; it opened on June 4, 1953.

Events and Unique Discoveries

The Marshall County Blueberry Festival takes place annually over Labor Day weekend at Centennial Park in Plymouth. It includes the annual Blueberry Stomp over 5 or 15 kilometers. For Saturday, September 5, 2026, the Blueberry Bike Cruise in Plymouth was also announced, with 31-, 41- and 62-mile routes as well as a 16-mile family tour to the Menominee Monument. Such dates can play an important role in planning the timing of a trip; the specific event date should always fit your own travel period.

Another unusual attraction is the Marshall County Barn Quilt Trail, Indiana’s first Barn Quilt Trail. At the Marshall County Museum, 40-foot-long interactive model trains run every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Together with the museums, theater and drive-in theater, they create a cultural program that is not limited to just one type of experience.

Planning the Right Accommodation

When searching for a vacation rental or vacation home in Marshall County, it is worthwhile to first determine your preferred focus. For water-focused days, Lake Maxinkuckee, the public access on the west shore and the offerings at Culver Marina should be included in your shortlist. Those who prefer trails and nature can use Potawatomi Wildlife Park or the Plymouth Greenways Trail as a guide. For interests in cultural history, the museums in Bremen, Plymouth and Culver as well as the REES Theatre are good options. Events such as the Blueberry Festival or a past edition of the Blueberry Bike Cruise, on the other hand, belong to travel planning tied to specific dates.

For further orientation, you can also visit Plymouth and Culver. This allows you to connect your choice of accommodation with the experiences that are genuinely most important to your travel group.
